Club Meetings Committee
This committee is responsible for projects directed towards the betterment of the community. One of the better known projects is the annual Ellen Trout Zoo Project. Others include the upkeep of the Girl Scout Shack, maintenance projects at the Kiwanis City Park and a project to keep a section of the highway clean. Contributions may be made to a number of organizations such as Texas Forestry Museum, Ellen Trout Zoo, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Angelina Alliance for Children, cost of the Spelling Bee, Salvation Army and others
Responsible for all projects used to raise funds used for community projects. These include the TV Auction, Turkey Shoot, Concession Stand on 4th of July etc. These funds go into the Community Services Account and pay for the items mentioned above. The Administrative Budget comes from member dues and pays for the meals. When talking to a prospect for membership, you can tell them that there are typically 13 lunches in a quarter, the dues per quarter are $125. If you divide $125 by 13, the cost of a meal is $9.615.
Arrange for Lufkin Kiwanis Club members to attend as many Division and Regional meetings as possible for fellowship and interchange of ideas. To have an interclub requires 4 members unless the Lt. Governor is present, then you can have 3.
Promote Kiwanis membership in the community; provide orientation for new members, plan inductions of new members and strive to increase membership sufficient to meet the Division and/or the Club President's goal. (Every Kiwanian is a member of the Membership Committee!). Since Public Relations is largely responsible for getting new members, these two Committees were combined in 2010.
Publicize club activities and achievements, maintain web site; arrange for media coverage and publish a monthly newsletter. Strive to get as many articles in the newspaper as possible and also the Kiwanian.
Supervise the collection and investment of scholarship funds. Make arrangements for presentation of Angelina Junior College scholarships to eligible Angelina County high school students who have been selected and recommended by their teachers.
Each year we give 9 scholarships of $500 each. Two to Lufkin High School, one each to Hudson, Zavalla, Diboll, Central, Huntington, Etoile,
