NATIONAL SOCIETY

DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION

Anthony Smith was born March 15, 1752, in West Haven, Connecticut. He married Ester Hodge on November 24, 1774 and seven sons were born to them: Anson, Joel, Marshall, Lawrence, Hubbard, Roswell, and Anthony. Anthony Smith served four (4) enlistments in the American Revolution under Captains Phineas Porter, Robert Martin, and John Lewis. Anthony Smith was on the list of Waterbury, Connecticut Revolutionary soldiers and received a pension for his services. He died March 3, 1838 in West Haven, Connecticut.

Miss Fannie Isbell Doolittle, born in Connecticut, was the first DAR member to have Anthony Smith of her ancestor. The year is unknown but her number was 2523. Including here, there have been 12 members who have had Anthony Smith for an ancestor. Our founding regent, Mrs. G. T. Moughon, was a descendant of Anthony Smith.
