Kiwanis of Lufkin, TX

The Kiwanis Club of Lufkin, TX meets each Wednesday at noon at Crown Colony located just off 59S. Members are men and women of all ages dedicated to improving the community through various projects. In Lufkin these include projects at the Ellen Trout Zoo, Girl Scouts, Spelling Bee, Salvation Army, Kiwanis Park, Scholarships and others. Money comes from dues, a TV Auction, a Turkey Shoot and donations. Kiwanis is always looking for new members who would like to do something for their community.

The Lufkin Kiwanis Club was organized March 23, 1947 and received it's Charter on April 29, 1947. There were 52 members when chartered. The word kiwanis is from an old Indian phrase meaning "to express one's self".

The meeting format for the Noon Kiwanis Club consists of call to order, sing several songs, have the pledges to the American and Texas Flags, reading of scripture and a prayer. Guests are recognized, call for person X and the program is begun. (Person X and brags are a way of raising money for the scholarship program.)
